Week of March 25- Design Elements & Principles

Scale is often refers to the size of an object oppose to another object. In art the size between an object and a human body is important. The scale of an artwork is to compare the its size to the size of our own body. This sculpture expresses human scale at another level. In this sculpture scale represents by the largest object. This is a great example of scale because  the sculpture shows a young boy's body being really big compare to the people besides him.
Asymmetrical balance is a form of symmetry in which two sides of a picture are different but also visually balanced. An asymmetrical painting are visually equal without it being identical. For example object in a photos are placed so that the viewers's sense of balance come into play. In other words in asymmetrical balance the elements are arranged so that people can get a sense of balance.

Many artist have different ways of unifying their work. Unity is the appearance or condition of oneness. In design unity describes the feeling that all the elements in a work belong together. In other words, the images work together to create meaning.Unity helps all the elements function together. This is a painting by Vincent Van Gogh. This painting gives us a sense of unity by the way the shapes are swirling pattern and the colors. By combining dark color with bright yellow, tell the viewer this is a painting of the moon at night.

Week of March 18- Antiquity: Prehistory, Mesoamerican, Greek & Egyptian Art

This is an ancient Egyptian painting. This painting where usually found in tombs. Egyptians  would paint the walls, believing that when someone passes away they are able to take all the images of their life with them. In fact the painting were never meant to be seen by human eyes after the tombs were closed. Egyptian art and painting doesn't change very much. In ancient Egypt color and tone were taken seriously. Men and Women skin tone were different, women had a lighter brown color and Men had dark reddish skin. The reason why women had lighter skin tone is to reflect how their stay in doors. In the other had Men had darker skin tone to show how their always outdoors. Each color that Egyptian use had a symbol. For example the color ''blue'' represent the sky, water. The color Red was the color of fire, anger chaos.

Egyptian and Greek are artworks are very different. This Geek statue represents a guy after a victory in an athletic contest. The original sculpture stood in a sanctuary, where game where held. Greek art usually designed with special attention to the body. Geeks are different from Egyptian because Geeks idealize the human body and showed the body fully nude in most sculptures. While Egyptian art focused more on religion. Unlike Egyptian art, Greek art examined the world as it was. Egyptian statues were more on the symmetry and the Greek statues we not based on any symmetry. Lastly the Greek statues were more realistic. For example the expression on the greeks statues is clear.
